MATTY Taylor has made a return to Sky Bet League One football after joining Cheltenham Town.
The Oxford United legend left the club in the summer after his contract expired and he was not offered a new deal.
He went on to join League Two side Forest Green Rovers, where he scored twice in 17 league appearances, however 12 of those were as a substitute.
Taylor’s move to Cheltenham sees him link up with Darrell Clarke, his former boss at Bristol Rovers, and Port Vale last season. Taylor scored four goals in 14 appearances for the Valiants, after joining the club on loan from the U’s late on January deadline day last year.
The 33-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Cheltenham and told the club website: “I’m delighted to be here and I’m glad to finally get it done. It’s been a long day but now I’m looking forward to meeting the boys tomorrow and getting going at the weekend.
“I’m hoping to help the team, work hard, help score goals, give advice and obviously we want to win games and climb the table.”
Only eight players have scored more goals for United in the club’s history, with Taylor netting 64 times for his hometown club.
