CHINNOR were unable to recreate their April heroics as Rams claimed a deserved 46-30 victory in the latest derby under the lights at Kingsey Road.
In light of The Queen’s death on Thursday, the National 1 fixture went ahead with more than 800 people in attendance.
It was an opportunity to come together to honour and celebrate our beloved former Monarch and the sides provided another ding-dong battle, featuring ten tries and 76 points.
However, Chinnor – who won this fixture in the last play five months ago – lost out to a powerful and clinical performance from their rivals.
Tom Price kicked three early penalties for the hosts, but Rams prop Ant Marris burrowed over from close range – Alex Seers converting.
The visitors went on to score three tries from driving mauls in the space of ten minutes as James McRae touched down twice and James Baker found his way over to increase the lead to 24-9.
Chinnor cut the deficit to eight points at the break when Mark Darlington crashed over at the back of a driving lineout, but Jak Rossiter’s score and a Seers penalty establishing a 16-point lead after the restart.
Chinnor gave themselves hope when another powerful maul led to birthday boy Reece Marshall going over, only for Rossiter to make it 39-23 with an interception try moments later.
The hosts refused to give in and cut the deficit to just nine points with 12 minutes to go, thanks to Dean Hammond’s try – converted by Price, who was flawless from the tee.
But Rams expertly saw the game out and Max Hayman crashed over in the last play as Chinnor’s wait for a first win of the season continues.
Elsewhere, Henley Hawks got off the mark in National 2 East with an excellent 41-17 win at Old Albanian.
The visitors wrapped up victory with an outstanding first half that put them 31-0 ahead at the break.
Scott White, Sam Lunnon, Ewan Fenley and a penalty try secured the bonus point before the interval, with Max Titchener’s boot doing the rest.
Henley eased off after the break and scored just ten more points, with Alex Bradley crossing, but they were already out of sight.
Oxford Quins made it two wins out of two in Regional 1 Southern Central, overcoming Bournemouth 21- 13, while Banbury Bulls edged out Sutton & Epsom 26-22 on the road to claim their first victory of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Witney triumphed 43-7 at Salisbury in Regional 2 Tribute South Central, with Grove beating Tottonians 40-23.
In Counties 1 Tribute Southern North, Bicester edged out Bletchley 24-22, Wallingford went down 30-7 at Marlow and Gosford All Blacks beat Reading Abbey 27-17.
