NORTH Leigh recorded their first victory of the BetVictor Southern League season despite having goalkeeper Eddie Cavanagh sent off.
The 2-1 home win against Wantage Town was made more remarkable by the fact they played 48 minutes without a recognised stopper, with winger Morgan Williams donning the gloves in the Division 1 Central fixture.
And he was needed to make a superb save late on to prevent the visitors, who are now bottom, earning a draw.
The Millers took the lead on 30 minutes when George Seacole smashed home.
But their good start was wiped out when Cavanagh was sent off just before half-time for handling the ball outside of the area.
Wantage made the most of the opportunity, with Tom Stanley scoring from the resultant free-kick.
North Leigh dug deep and retook the lead on 58 minutes when Callum McNish scored.
Wantage pushed for an equaliser, with Williams making his fine save as the Millers held on.
Leam Howards scored twice as Kidlington beat Thame United 3-0 at home to pick up their first points.
Forward Howards fired the hosts in front on four minutes.
Kidlington had to wait until the 59th minute to double their lead, Howards netting again.
Substitute Chris Jordan then made the points safe with his first touch.
Didcot Town got off the mark with a goalless draw at Aylesbury United.
Mark Francis had two openings in the first half, but goalkeeper Jack Hopwood saved well, while the striker fired the other opportunity over the bar.
George Reid and Brett Gardner also went close as Didcot, whose manager Jamie Heapy played his first game in three years, were unable to break the deadlock.
Meanwhile, Jaanai Gordon hit a 90th-minute winner as Banbury United earned a 2-1 win at home to Barwell in Premier Central.
The Puritans saw their unbeaten start come to an end at the weekend, but they responded well.
Giorgio Rasulo headed the Puritans into an early lead.
But the visitors equalised on 51 minutes, when Brady Hickey’s long ball fell to Omotolani Omotola who slotted underneath goalkeeper Jack Harding.
However, substitute Gordon fired home late on as Banbury secured victory, while Barwell’s Jacob Whitmore was sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time.
