KEVIN Magnussen matched the Banbury-prepared Haas team’s highest Formula 1 finish with fifth place in Bahrain.
The Danish driver scored ten points in the second race of the season yesterday.
The result equals Haas’ best finish which was also set at the Bahrain International Circuit in 2016.
Magnussen’s finish makes up for the team’s frustrating double retirement in Australia a fortnight ago due to loose wheels following pit stops.
Teammate Romain Grosjean finished 15th, but he was on the end of some frustrated words from Magnussen after the Dane was held up when trying to lap the Frenchman.
Nico Hulkenberg scored points in back-to-back races for the Enstone-based Renault team.
The German finished sixth, benefiting from Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen’s retirement after he ran over his own mechanic in the pits, while teammate Carlos Sainz was 11th.
Grove-based Williams endured another disappointing day, with Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin 16th and 17th respectively.
