CARLOS Sainz is relishing the ‘unique’ test in store at this weekend’s Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The Enstone-based Renault driver, who finished tenth in the season-opener in Australia, says the night race presents a fantastic challenge.
“It’s always cool racing at night and under the lights, which makes this race one of the more unique of the calendar,” he said.
“Scoring points at the first grand prix of the year is always important and the pace was there, so I can’t wait to jump into the car in Bahrain.”
Teammate Nico Hulkenberg added: “We sent out a positive message, but we need to reduce the gap to the front and that’s the challenge.”
CHIPPING Norton's Sean Walkinshaw bids to get his Super GT300 Championship campaign off to a strong start at Okayama International Circuit in Japan this weekend.
Heading into his second season in the competitive Far East championship, the 24-year-old aims to build on a fantastic debut year where he ended the campaign fourth – tied on points for third – with teammate Shinichi Takagi.
“We’re going into this season with only one goal to be honest, challenging for the GT300 title”, said the Briton,
“Last year was very strong, to win in my first year in Super GT was fantastic and Shinichi and I worked really well together, so the aim in 2018 has to be more podiums, wins and a big push for the championship.”
