Why the funding?
SIR – I read with concern that Age UK was considering terminating its Phone Friends Scheme due to the withdrawing of funding from Oxfordshire County Council.
Age UK obtains income from the sale of products and services to the elderly so why does it need funding from the councils?
This is especially true when you consider that this service is volunteer-led and run.
Perhaps the executive is overpaid which I’m afraid is symptomatic of many of our “charitable” organisations.
