Sir – May I share my good fortune with you and your readers. The other day, I experienced the most fantastic help from a total stranger.

I was driving back to Witney at about 6pm when I noticed the driver in the following car was gesticulating, flashing his lights and hooting gently.

Being the stereotypical woman driver, I wondered what I had done wrong and stopped the car.

He did likewise and told me I had a puncture and to drive very carefully. This I did but soon had to stop again, realising I wouldn’t make it to deliver my granddaughter to her home in Cogges.

He, still following, stopped again and offered to change the punctured wheel. This he did with one or two delays as I wasn’t very helpful – no tools, etc.

The whole incident took over an hour. The young man, whose name was Mike, was driving home to Witney after work, when he spotted my predicament. He refused any payment.

I just could not believe that a young man, a stranger, could be so, so kind and helpful these days – it’s completely heartwarming.

I’m sure others would feel the same. Newspapers often have a dearth of ‘good news’ stories, hence this letter.
