Sir – You have to feel a little bit sorry for beleaguered Witney MP David Cameron.
With the likes of Boris Johnson, Theresa May and Liam Fox all circling for his job as Prime Minister, you would have thought he would at least have the backing of his own party activists in his constituency.
But they too appear to be abandoning him.
First it was the Chipping Norton Conservative chairman who quit over gay marriage.
Then district councillors David Snow and Steve Hayward quit the party and are sitting as independents.
Now another West Oxfordshire Tory councillor, Annie Roy-Barker, has quit (Gazette, June 26 and July 3).
You have to wonder what’s happening in local Conservative ranks.
If David Cameron can’t even command the support and backing of his own party members, how does he expect to convince the rest of us to support him in an election?
Andrew Carter, Burford Road, Witney
