Sir – The recent decision by hospital bosses to massively increase the cost of car parking at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford adds further weight to the call that there should be a direct bus route from West Oxfordshire to the hospital (Gazette, May 29).

With charges set to increase by 40 per cent for a short-term stay and a huge 87 per cent for a stay of three to four hours, a direct bus service appears considerably more attractive.

With many hospital workers living in West Oxfordshire and many more of us using and visiting the hospital this gap in public transport provision needs addressing.

Taking more cars off the A40 will also help alleviate congestion and pollution.

I urge all parties to work together to make this happen for the benefit of us all.
