Sir – With reference to your reports about access for cars to Tower Hill Cemetery, Witney Town Council appears to be hell-bent on stating that baby graves and headstones have been damaged.

I have been told this is not car damage but caused by something else.

May I suggest small bollards are installed along the edge of any unmarked baby graves.

I have yet to find a headstone damaged by cars. However, my late husband’s memorial stone (which has only been in place a month) has been damaged, and no cars go anywhere near the area where he is laid to rest.

Even the proposal to spend £11,500 on remote-controlled gates and retractable bollards means that any person with a mobility problem will be unable to access the far end (the newest part) of the cemetery, which is what we were hoping would not happen.

How crazy is this whole situation? Children and young adults are allowed in the cemetery to play, but anyone with a mobility issue who wants to visit and tend graves is being stopped. Where is the logic in that?

I hope Witney Town Council realises the distress and heartache they are causing bereaved people at a time when they least need this extra problem.

Please sort this situation out as soon as possible.
