We are delighted to hear that Cogges Manor Farm will reopen to the public next month.

Witney residents and this paper have campaigned hard to save the facility, but the credit has to be given to the trustees.

They have worked tirelessly, and without them the much-loved museum would surely have closed for good.

Most impressively, they have managed to get 50 residents to volunteer their time to help run the facility.

But arguably the hard work begins now.

The trustees have a plan in place for the long-term financial stability of the museum. And this has received the backing of Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron, who described it as “enterprising”.

But what Cogges needs more than anything is the backing of the public.

The campaign to save the facility has not ended, and we encourage everyone to visit the museum and spend money.

When Oxfordshire County Council ran the museum, it received about 30,000 visitors a year. We would love to see that number increase. We also hope that businesses and charities will get involved and give money in the future.

Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council have only given temporary funding, meaning the trustees have a two-year deadline to make the facility sustainable.

We know it is early days — and the trustees have not even been given the keys yet — but the two years will go by quickly.

But the trustees have so far beaten the odds to get the museum reopened and we have every faith in their ability.
