The passing of Witney town councillor Chrissie Curry has touched many people.
The town was in mourning this week after the former mayor passed away after a short illness last Wednesday. Friends, family and colleagues have all commented on how much she gave to her family and to the Witney community.
Ms Curry was one of those councillors and community activists who put the bigger picture before her own interests.
And she will have a lasting legacy. She has been heavily involved in the project to bring Witney a truly outstanding splash park which – when it opens in the summer – will provide entertainment for families for many years to come.
One hopes the council will dedicate at least part of it to her memory.
And when youngsters go buzzing up and down the ramps on a new BMX park at the West Witney housing estate when it is built, they will have Ms Curry to thank.
Add to this her involvement in the Abdabs youth theatre group, designing sets and stitching costumes, one sees a person who was devoted to improving the lives of future generations. She gave much to her own generation too. Her partner David Harvey recalled how she always had time for her constituents.
Let us hope the next generation who spend their youth playing in the splash park or on the new BMX ramp also remember her and grow up holding community values just as dear.
