VILLAGERS embraced the festival spirit and went all out to celebrate their annual carnival.

A parade of floats through Eynsham was followed by rides and activities at Eynsham Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Cousins Leah Humphris, 13, and Daniel Reading, 12, built a rocket and dressed as astronauts for the procession.

Leah said: “It was a really fun day and very hot and nice.

“Almost all the village were there.”

Residents also kept a 52-year-old tradition alive as they dressed in fancy dress and raced from pub to pub.

The Shirt Race has been held on the carnival day since 1959.

Pairs of competitors take turns to push the other in a cart after drinking a half pint of beer or a soft drink at each of seven bars.

Ashley and Darrin Roles won the contest, after taking part for 20 years.

CBBC’s presenters Ed Petrie and Naomi Wilkinson, pictured, also joined in the fun.
