THE Liberal Democrat candidate to take on Witney MP David Cameron in the next General Election has been announced.
Dawn Barnes will stand for Witney against the Conservative leader in May or June next year.
Labour candidate Joe Goldberg is also fighting for the seat.
Miss Barnes, 32, said: “I was really happy, and a little surprised, to be confirmed as the Liberal Democrat candidate to stand against a man who is widely-tipped to be the next Prime Minister.
“However, it’s a real honour, and I’ll be working hard with the local party and friends and family in West Oxfordshire to get to the heart of local issues, meet local people, and show how Liberal Democrat policies will help address concerns.”
The communications professional lives in Enfield, north London, with her partner.
John Lilley, chairman of the selection committee at Witney Liberal Democrats, said: “We’re pleased to have Dawn as our candidate.
“She’s passionate about people, and her enthusiasm will inspire both the local party and people across the constituency.
“Dawn is also very approachable and down-to-earth, and we are looking forward to working with her to offer change and a real alternative for voters.”
