An Asda shop in Oxfordshire has been slammed over its poor food hygiene.
The Asda Express at Acorn Service Station on Park Road in Faringdon was inspected on Thursday, October 24 by Vale of White Horse District Council’s Environmental Health team.
Inspectors were left far from impressed, handing the business a shocking two-out-of-five food hygiene rating and stating that “improvement” was necessary.
A key area of concern was the cleanliness and condition of both the facilities and building which also required “necessary” improvement.

This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.
Despite the other problems, Asda’s hygienic food handling including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage was deemed to be “generally satisfactory”.
Similarly, so was the management of food safety which concerns if there is a system or checks in place to ensure that the food sold or served is safe to eat.
It also regards whether evidence that staff know about food safety and if the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.

The supermarket chain was approached for comment and stated that the problems in Faringdon have since been fixed.
A spokesperson for Asda said: “We take the hygiene of our stores extremely seriously and can reassure customers that the issues identified during an inspection of our Faringdon Express store in October, have since been rectified.
“We will be applying for a revisit and expect to receive a rating that reflects the high standards that we set ourselves.”
