Fundraisers took over Swinford toll bridge near Eynsham to persuade motorists to part with cash.

Supporters of Botley playgroup and Bartholomew School, Eynsham, manned the bridge for 15 hours in 1989 to boost their funds.

Drivers were happy to pay more than the 2p toll and helped the collectors, many in fancy dress, to raise more than £750.

The playgroup put its share of the proceeds towards new headquarters, while the school planned to boost its general funds.

The toll bridge is privately owned and is Grade II * listed.
