The town mayor presented a primary school with an award for the best floral wheelbarrow chosen by the public.

Witney Mayor, Cllr Owen Collins visited Our Lady of Lourdes School on Friday morning (October 1) to present pupils with the People's Choice award.

As part of Witney in Bloom, the Town Council once again provided wheelbarrows to primary schools and one to a guest organisation Synolos to compete for best Schools in Bloom Wheelbarrow.

The theme this year was ‘budding friendships’ and schools were asked to create a barrow that could be passed on to a care home, retirement village or similar.

Over 670 people cast votes for the winners at Witney Carnival in July.

Our Lady of Lourdes School barrow featured an insect habitat, a bee house called the Buddy Stop, and plenty of colourful pollinator-friendly plants. It was donated to Witney Day Centre hwere it was cared for over the summer.

The Witney Rotary Club who sponsor the competition with a cash prize and a trophy selected Springfield Primary School as their winner.

Queen Emma’s Primary School’s colourful, plastic free barrow caught the Mayor’s eye and was chosen as his favourite.

Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School clinched the People’s Choice award which was chosen by visitors to the stall voting for their favourite barrows.

Witney Town Council said once again it had been "overwhelmed by the effort, creativity and enthusiasm of all the entrants".
