Firefighters have tackled a '30 foot high' blaze involving 600 hay bales.
Four fire appliances from Witney, Charlbury and Kidlington were called to fire in large bales of straw which partially collapsed next to the A40 today (October 8).
The call came in at 2.12pm and the fire service said there are still crews on scene at around 7.30pm.
One witness driving past the scene described the blaze as '30 feet high'.
Fire crews were being supported by the Oxfordshire County Council highways team.
Thames Water staff were also at the scene to help with water supplies.
Police closed Witney Road between Downs Road roundabout and Caswell House, leading to long delays.
Commuters were asked to take other routes on the drive home.
Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene to ensure the fire burned out safely.
