Nine cyclists from Witney have travelled more than 100 miles in memory of an "amazing friend".

On Friday, September 6, the group began the journey in memory of their school friend, Dave Hyde, who passed away in September 2021 after playing a rugby match for Henley Hawks.

They are also raising funds for the British Heart Foundation and have set up a fundraising page.

The majority of the group are not cyclists, but they have raised £4,864 of their £5,000 target so far.

The group said: "Dave Hyde was an incredible friend to all of us and has left a huge hole in all of our lives since his passing and it’s this reason we all wanted to get together and do something in his memory."

The route is significant to Mr Hyde’s life, starting at his family home, passing by Henley Rugby Club, where he played for a number of years, and ending at Twickenham Stadium, where Mr Hyde once scored a try.

The group recently lost another friend, Charles Winstone, to a heart related condition, which they said has "motivated us further to raise money for this great charity".

The group added: "Anything you can donate whether big or small would be greatly appreciated and would help make a real difference. Thank you in advance for your support."
