A man has required hospital treatment after being bitten by a dog at a recreation ground in an Oxfordshire village.

While walking through Bampton recreation ground, a man in his 50s was approached and bitten on the leg by a West Highland terrier dog, which was not on the lead, police have said.

The dog and its owner left straight after the incident at around 9.30am on Thursday, June 20 and headed towards the wooded area, police added.

The owner is described by officers as a white woman in her late 50s, around 5ft 2ins tall with short hair and of large build.

The man required hospital treatment for his lower leg but he has since been discharged, it has been confirmed.

Thames Valley Police is now appealing for eyewitnesses or anyone with information to come forward following the incident.

Investigating officer Sergeant Marc Robinson, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or anyone with information about what happened, to please come forward.

“We are also asking anyone who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage that could assist our enquiry to please come forward.
