Oxfordshire gun scare as attempted burglary at wine shop

The incident occurred at Eynsham Cellars in Mill Street as an offender entered and threatened a staff member who was a woman in her 40s.

It is reported by Thames Valley Police she was threatened with a weapon, possibly a gun, at around 7pm on Friday, April 12.

The offender then put a bag on the counter and told the staff member to fill it with money.

She then ran into the back of the shop and the offender then ran off down John Lopes Road, then Evans Road and into Back Lane Car Park, police have said.

Police say that nothing was stolen and have since released a CCTV image of a man who officers wish to speak to.

They believe he may have vital information about an attempted robbery in Eynsham.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Matthew Leney said: “I understand this attempted robbery may cause some concern but luckily incidents involving firearms are very rare.

“While nothing was stolen and no one was physically injured, we do not underestimate the impact this sort of incident can cause on those involved.

“We are investigating this attempted robbery as a priority and are releasing this CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to as we believe he may have vital information about it.
