The date for this year’s Charlbury Beer Festival has been announced as the event celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The festival will be held on Saturday, June 24, from noon to 9pm at Charlbury Cricket Club.

It will also host the 11th World Aunt Sally Singles Championships.

Around 3,000 visitors are expected to attend, and there will be a range of 60 real ales as well as craft beers, ciders and perries, wine, gin, and Pimm’s.

The organisers said: “Who would have thought that possible back in 1998, when a bunch of primary school dads brought a few barrels into Charlbury’s Memorial Hall and created what has become one of the country’s largest independent one-day beer festivals?”

The festival will also feature a selection of food as well as live music, children’s entertainment, and a varied programme of performances and talks in a Culture Tent.

The total amount raised by the festival for community projects at home and abroad has now reached £275,000, with last year’s grants awarded to various groups in Charlbury as well as an education project in Afghanistan.

The organisers said: “Let’s face it, it’s thanks to all those people who have come to enjoy a day out in the sunshine and helped quaff some of the finest ales available.

“And it is also thanks to those generous sponsors who have financed the beers and the entertainment tents, and of course, the beers themselves, plus the many hours that committee members and other volunteers have put in over the years.”
