National League Rugby to stream Chinnor’s derby at Rams

In March, penalties proved costly for Chinnor who fell short as derby rivals Rams recorded a bonus point victory.

The hosts triumphed 38-22 in a pulsating National League 1 encounter, which attracted a 1,000-plus crowd, while 4,000 tuned in via a livestream.

National League Rugby will again stream the fixture, which takes place on Friday, kick-off at 7.45pm.

It will be broadcast live for free via the National League Rugby website and on its YouTube channel.

A National League Rugby statement read: “The positive feedback we received last season was hugely encouraging and thanks to the support of Rams CEO Gary Reynolds, the cooperation of both clubs and the expertise which NextGenXV offer, we are able to showcase the quality of National League Rugby and the value levels three and four bring to the game.

“The host and producer of The National League Rugby Review Show, Warren Muggleton, will lead our coverage with freelance journalist Joe Harvey adding his expert insight as part of the punditry team.

“Talking Rugby Union will work closely with NextGenXV to help power the livestream, with their dedication to promoting National League Rugby still top of their agenda.”

Rams lead National League 1 ahead of Sale, having won 11 and lost two of their opening 13 matches this season.

Chinnor are 10th in the table, and have won just once in their last six league games.

Earlier this season, Rams claimed a deserved 46-30 victory under the lights at Kingsey Road.

The streamed clash with Rams represents the first opportunity to show what Chinnor have picked up in Nick Easter’s first weeks at the club.

The 44-year-old former England player was appointed director of rugby on December 2.

Easter played at three World Cups for England – in 2007, 2011 and 2015 – and was most recently defence and forwards coach at Worcester Warriors.

Chinnor’s home clash with Bishop’s Stortford in National League 1 was set to be the first chance to get a glimpse of the early influence Easter has had on the Thame-based outfit.

However, the fixture was postponed due to the cold temperatures at the weekend.

Banbury’s away clash against Bracknell was called off due to a frozen pitch, while all fixtures in Regional 2 Tribute South Central and Counties 1 Tribute Southern North were also postponed.
