WEST Oxfordshire District Council have become the fourth district authority in the council to support the Climate and Ecology (CE) Bill.

The bill is to help reduce emissions, restore and conserve eco systems and to ‘be responsible’ in general.

There are 27 councils in total across Oxfordshire which have passed motions with the exception of Cherwell District Council which rejected the motion last week.

Kate Oldridge, Coordinator of Zero Hour Oxfordshire, a campaign in support the bill, said: “We warmly welcome the decision of West Oxfordshire District Council in supporting this motion and thank the councillors who voted in support for their community leadership.

“It is very disappointing that Cherwell District Council have not been able to keep pace with other councils on this crucial issue, with some senior conservative councillors obviously failing to understand why it is so important for local councils to support the bill.

“I am sure that Cherwell residents would like to look to their local community leaders to do what is within their power to mitigate against the worst effects of this crisis.”

Zero Hour Oxfordshire is putting out a call out to businesses and other organisations as well as individuals in Oxfordshire to sign an open letter to Oxfordshire MPs calling on them to support the CE Bill.
