THE RAF has stopped flights in and out of its largest air base because the “runway has melted” in the hot weather.
The decision to shut the runway at RAF Brize Norton was taken this morning. Plans have been implemented to ensure there’s no impact on operations.
Runways can be deemed unsafe when the tarmac becomes sticky under the sun.
RAF Brize Norton is the largest RAF station with approximately 5,800 Service Personnel, 1,200 contractors and 300 civilian staff.
