A cycling club started by a group of tandem enthusiasts in Charlbury will celebrate its 50th birthday with a 50km ride.
Since its founding in 1971, the Tandem Club has grown to more than 3,000 members in the UK and overseas, many of whom will take part in a group tandem ride on Saturday 9 0ctober starting and ending in the town.
“A 50km ride, exactly 50 years to the day since the founding of our club, starting and ending in Charlbury where it all began, is a great way to celebrate,” said chair Peter Weeks.
"Tandems may seem old-fashioned, but tandem cycling today is more popular than ever. Sales of new and second-hand tandems are booming as couples find how much they enjoy cycling together. Cycling on a tandem is a team effort. No one gets left behind."
The Tandem Club organises local rides and tandem rallies every year in the UK and Europe.
