THREE men have appeared in court following a violent attack in Oxford which left a victim in a coma.

Wakas Khan, 20, of Furlong Close in Blackbird Leys, Andre Hurst, 25, of George Street in Banbury, and Adam Doyle, 26, of Ladder Hill in Wheatley, are all accused of one count of violent disorder and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.

All three men appeared in custody at Banbury Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning.

Doyle was dealt with first and pleaded not guilty to both counts. He was wearing a dark blue jumper with a light blue shirt underneath. He spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

Doyle was released on conditional bail, to keep to a curfew between 7.30pm and 5.30am, and wear an electronic tag.

Khan and Hurst were brought in front of magistrates afterwards and also pleaded not guilty to both counts. They were remanded in custody.

Crown prosecutor Sarah McKay told the court the arrests followed a fight which broke out outside the Taste of Jamaica takeaway in Cowley Road, Littlemore, at about 7.30pm on Monday.

She said a baseball bat was alleged to have been used during the incident, and chairs were also used as weapons.

Magistrate Nicola Metcalfe said: “Such is the serious nature of this incident I have no choice, but to send the matter to crown court.”

All three men are set to appear at Oxford Crown Court on Monday.

A 24-year-old man sustained serious injuries during the incident, according to Thames Valley Police, and was last night still being treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
