MORE than £2,000 has been raised in memory of a young man who died of cancer.
On Sunday, Chipping Norton FC played an Oxford United team in a match to remember Shaun Weller.
Mr Weller, who played for Chipping Norton, died of liver cancer in May 2012 when he was just 22 years old.
Oxford captain Peter Rhoades-Brown was handed the trophy after winning 2-1 by Mr Weller’s daughter Tiana, three, and his dad Tony.
His father Tony, 50, of Cotswold Crescent, said: “It was a really great event. Oxford won 2-1 but it was a really nice day.
“There was probably about 200 people there, the weather was really good for it which helped. This is now an annual event, last year was our first, and I think it will be brilliant to continue it.”
The money will be donated to fund liver cancer research.
