AN 89-year-old man shot himself in the head with a shotgun after learning he had cancer, an inquest has heard.
Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter yesterday ruled that Jack Joslin, of Box Cottage, Sparsholt, near Wantage, took his own life in the garden of his home on April 22.
The inquest at County Hall heard that Mr Joslin died from injuries sustained from a gunshot wound to his head after he had told family members he wanted to kill himself.
The former bank manager had suffered from depression, and had recently been diagnosed with a form of lymphoma.
The verdict was that Mr Joslin took his own life.
