Died peacefully at Churchfields Care Home, Cassington, on 9th November 2024, aged 91 years. Don worked for 35 years at the Oxford Mail as a theatre critic, columnist and arts editor. He contributed extensively to Eynsham village life for over 54 years. His comprehensive history of the Oxford Playhouse was recognised by a doctorate from the University of Leicester and became his first full length book Oxford Playhouse: High and Low drama in a University City, followed by Wearing the trousers: Fashion, Freedom and the Rise of the Modern Women and A ten penny dip in paradise.
He was very much loved and will be dearly missed by his wife Sue, daughters Katie, Anna and extended family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Eynsham Village Hall on Friday 6th December 2024 at 3pm.
Donations may be given in Don's memory to support the work of the ME Society.
