TWO people have been prosecuted for fraudulently claiming housing and council tax benefit, totalling more than £3,300.
Shaun Regan, 48, of Oxford Street, Woodstock, admitted two offences of wrongly obtaining £387.28 of housing benefit.
Kay Williams, 43, of The Ridge Way, Tackley, pleaded guilty to making false representations in order to claim £2,961.22 housing and council tax benefit.
Both appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court, and were given a 12-month community punishment orders, and made to pay £75 costs.
Regan was also given 100 hours of unpaid work.
West Oxfordshire District Council will seek to recover the £3,348.50 obtained fraudulently.
Councillor Simon Hoare, cabinet member for resources, said: “Benefit fraud is a deception against the community, and so the council will always pursue fraud and fraudsters, whether the amount is large or modest.”
